One of our Fortune 500 Pharma clients is currently seeking a Part-time Medical Editor (approx. 20/hrs a week) to serve as the Editorial liaison to other departments for special initiatives/projects. The ideal candidate will also approach this position with conviction that will play a key role in our client’s success by showing initiative, challenging the status quo, continually seeking ways to operate more effectively, and taking ownership of every resource reviewed. This is a fully remote role but candidates must be able to work EST hours. This person must have experience referencing and/or annotating materials!

Medical Editor Responsibilities

  • Determine needed staff and other resources
  • Determine work assignments and prioritization
  • Correctly interpret and implement client revisions to editorial deliverables
  • Proactively look for operational opportunities for improvement
  • Responsible for overall editorial style consistency
  • Review client feedback and mark up documents in PDF format as needed
  • Fact-check pieces with references (eg, monographs) as directed
  • Provide proofreading support
  • Update online proofreading tracking tool to facilitate proofreading process
  • Maintain knowledge of brands and corporate/regulatory guidelines
  • Keep abreast of trends/developments in an editorial style, usage, medical writing, and publishing
  • Understand and ensure the appropriate use of job management systems and tools; provide input for system upgrades, as needed
  • Actively participate in job/resource management-use appropriate departmental systems technology to track progress and help ensure that jobs/resources move quickly and efficiently through the process
  • Collaborate with clients/stakeholders across sites (internal/external) to help the team meet business objectives

  • Provide guidance on copyright issues, including author/publisher permissions
  • Some site-to-site travel may be required

Medical Editor Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in arts or sciences required; degree in English, journalism, or communication preferred
  • Minimum 5 years general editorial experience, with at least 2 years in medical, pharmaceutical, or advertising industry preferred
  • Self-starter with excellent communication and problem-solving skills
  • Strong editorial/proofreading skills (test required) and effective writing skills
  • Proficient in AMA style
  • Proficient with Adobe Acrobat
  • Skilled at managing multiple concurrent projects
  • Ability to manage a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment
  • Ability to work independently and within a team structure
  • Command of medical/legal system and regulatory guidelines
